7 Fall Books We Can’t Wait to Read
Cozy sweaters, boots and pumpkin spice lattes can only mean one thing: fall books are hitting the shelves! Here are the new titles we’re eagerly anticipating here at Shelf Pleasure.
Jennifer Weiner has been there for many stages of our lives. She just gets it. This is her first collection of essays and touches upon all the topics you would expect from the bestselling author: weight, sex, motherhood, adolescence and more. And they’re sure to be explored with a heavy dose of wit and wisdom.
We’re slightly obsessed with HGTV’s Fixer Upper and have fallen in love with Chip and Joanna Gaines. We can’t wait to read their real life love story and learn more about this fabulous duo. Will their winning, onscreen charm transfer to the page?
If you’re looking for a suspense-driven mystery look no further. Ide’s highly anticipated debut is a classic detective novel starring an unlikely detective. A resident of one of Los Angeles’s toughest neighborhoods solves the crimes the LAPD either can’t or won’t. They call him IQ, and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep his streets safe.
Kendrick is not your typical celebrity so we have high hopes that this won’t be a typical celebrity autobiography. If you’ve ever taken a look at Kendrick’s hilarious Twitter feed, you already know she has a witty, off beat sense of humor and sly observations about life that should lend itself nicely to a collection of essays—maybe she’ll surprise us as a new David Sedaris.
Swing Time (November 15th)
A look at culture, race and identity, Zadie Smith tells the story of two biracial girls with big dreams of becoming dancers. Distance and varying levels of success leads to a rift in their complicated friendship. As the story takes us through the decades, it’s a close examination of friends and rivals set against a gorgeous backdrop of Europe and Africa.
Speaking of celebrity autobiographies, our beloved Lorelai Gilmore has written a book! Okay, it’s Lauren Graham but forgive us if we sometimes have trouble separating the two. The Gilmore Girls is an old favorite but Graham has continued to surprise us, most recently as the author of the charming novel Someday Someday Maybe. We’re curious to find out more about her life in Hollywood and see if she is anything like the characters we’ve come to love.
We can always rely on Fannie Flag to deliver a feel-good story featuring a quirky small town and even quirkier characters. When weird things start to happen at the cemetery in Elmwood Springs, MO, the whole town comes together to figure out what exactly is happening.
