Celebrity Autobiographies Worth the Read
In addition to our book addiction (as evidenced by the growing mound of paperbacks on our desks and the pile of receipts for our iBook purchases), we’re also total celebrity news junkies who need our daily fix of TMZ and E! News. So of course some of our favorite new reads are celebrity autobiographies that give us a sneak peek into their real lives. If you, too, have people.com bookmarked on your computer, check out these new titles!
We love that NPH’s new memoir is framed as a classic “Choose Your Own Adventure” novel. From his childhood in New Mexico to his big break at acting camp, to Doogie Howser, M.D., and to marriage and starting a family, Harris shares all. See his childhood pics, read stories about friendships with megastars such as Elton John and enjoy the closing song (yes, there’s even a closing song). It’s everything we would expect from the amazingly talented Neil Patrick Harris.
We’ve been a fan of the always hysterical Amy Poehler since her SNL days. In her first book, Poehler offers us essential life advice (it’s always good to know when it’s okay to be funny and when it’s time to be serious) while also sharing personal tales from her childhood and career. If that’s not enough, there are also tidbits about sex and relationships. Amy Poehler is one of those women, along with her frequent collaborator Tina Fey, who we would love to call our BFF.
Dunham’s book only came out a couple of weeks ago and it’s already hitting bestseller lists and earning major praise—and with good reason. Not only is it laugh-out-loud funny but it’s also refreshingly candid (we would expect nothing less from the notoriously open Girls star). Dunham is highly relatable as she touches upon all the coming of age experiences, from dating the wrong guys to falling in love to losing her virginity to learning how to feel self-confident. She talks about her relationship with food and her weight, shares her thoughts on mortality and voices her frustrations about male-dominated Hollywood. It’s an interesting, engaging read that also serves as a poignant tale about growing up.
