Chloe Evans’ Book Launch for Murder in the Gazebo – Where Was Chloe?
The historic National Arts Club overlooking New York’s exclusive Gramercy Park was the ideal location for the book launch of Murder in the Gazebo: A Murder Mystery with Recipes because the murder takes place on the site of a cabin in the pristine woods of New Jersey, complete with a lake, a gazebo and a bear.
Murder in the Gazebo is the debut release of what publisher Eddie Vega of Noir Nation calls “a series of detective, mystery and cooking novels all rolled into one, where food is the weapon of choice every time.”
Perhaps most mysterious about the grand event, featuring fresh-baked goodies made from recipes in the book (it is a murder mystery with recipes after all) was the location of author Chloe Evans.
“Chloe unfortunately couldn’t be with us this evening,” lamented her alter-ego Sabra Brock from the podium before reading a section of the book in which we meet our heroine Melanie Eagleton, an accomplished and sexy 40ish woman, and her friend Charlotte, who later ends up dead. (Don’t feel bad, someone has to die, it’s a mystery.) Not sure why Sabra felt compelled to sign my book in Chloe’s absence.
Sabra then handed the microphone to Donne Kampel who told us about the real life getaway that inspired the book, complete with bear sighting and all. Funny, Donne signed my book, too.
What’s going on here and where was Chloe? Word on the street has it that she was off researching the book’s sequel in Mumbai with Ellery Queen. Will the weapon of choice be tandoori chicken, naan or paneer tikka masala? We’ll have to stay on top of this author’s upcoming novels as well as her whereabouts as we at Shelf Pleasure love a good mystery!
Standing room only – that’s our roving reporter Jami. in yellow, taking a shot for us!
Special drink of the evening – blood stained Prosecco – made with grenadine!
