Laura Barnard’s Picks
Laura Barnard’s first chick-lit novel, The Debt & the Doormat, was an Amazon number 1 best-seller and won Best Laugh Out Loud Book of 2013. She shares the chick-lit titles on her own to-read list.
I’ve gone on a bit of a reading blitz lately. It’s the geeky way I celebrate having finished writing a novel and after taking nine months to finish my book The Baby & the Bride, I deserve a bit of indulgence.
For ages I was hearing about a man called Jesse Ward, some fictional man that every woman was wetting her knickers about. I didn’t understand what the big deal could be…50% in and I’m in love! As a Brit, I love reading a British book, as I can relate more to the slang and way of life. Jesse is the ideal Alpha Male and I can’t wait to see what happens.
I recently finished Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan and WOW, what a book! It follows the story of reclusive mute Archer Hale being pried out of his shell by new girl in town Bree. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it, as I couldn’t imagine how it would work reading about a mute! But it was done so well that it just added to the romance and it was like they had their own secret language. It also had lots of suspense and a whole bunch of characters to hate! Finishing this led me to also read Stinger by the same author. I wasn’t disappointed! So next on my nightstand is Leo.
This is a new Irish author I’ve heard lots of good things about. It’s not released until 16th March, but the reviews are already amazing. It’s supposed to be panty dropping hot, mixed with humour and hilarious sarcasm. Can’t wait!
Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren
I’ve read Beautiful Bastard and Beautiful Stranger and loved them both. Sexy, thrilling and romantic. I doubt I’ll be disappointed with the third book.
I always know I can rely on Kinsella for perfect chick lit. I love a giggle, bit of romance and a guaranteed happy ending.
It sounds hilarious, with reviewers calling her the new Bridget Jones. I can’t wait.
In her spare time Laura enjoys drinking her body weight in tea, indulging in cupcakes the size of her face, drooling over hunks like Jamie Dornan, Ryan Gosling and Leo Dicaprio…oh and her husband of course! She likes wearing yoga clothes and reading fitness magazines while sitting on the sofa eating chocolate. She’s a real fan of the power nap and of course, READING!
