New Releases 11.3.15
Before the holiday madness begins, make time for a quality session with a new book. Here are recently released reads we are adding to our TBR pile—and you should too.
In 1955 Chicago, a determined female reporter will do what it takes to make her mark in the man’s world of journalism. Forced to the society pages, Jordan Walsh wants to be taken seriously. And when she finds a secret source inside Mayor Daley’s office, it’s the big break she needs. With access to major confidential information, Jordan has the power to make the front page—even if it means ruining a few lives in the process.
Miller’s book about the aftermath of war and its effect on the life of one young woman is a timely tale. Becca grew up with a distant, often absent father, the result of his days in Vietnam. Her new husband Ben is a different person after his second tour of duty. And soon after the wedding, his dangerous behavior leaves Becca no choice but to flee. Finding her father and trying to understand his inner battles might be the only way to reconcile with her husband and save their marriage.
For some lighter reading, you can’t beat a hot contemporary romance. Ella Abbott is in love with the wrong man. Gavin Guthrie has been a bad place since his brother died a few years back, spending his time drinking, fighting and causing trouble. Despite his attraction to Ella—and a passionate kiss—he tells her to steer clear of him. Too bad neither one of them can stay away for very long. Perhaps what Gavin needs is to give in and let Ella’s love lead him to finally heal.
Though we have mixed feelings on Gillian Flynn, there is no denying that she has a huge fan base and mega-bestselling status. “The Grownup” originally appeared as “What Do You Do?” in George R. R. Martin’s Rogues anthology and this is the first time it is being published as a standalone story. It’s Flynn’s take on the classic ghost story, and you can be sure to expect lots of twists and turns.
