From fantasy to mystery to a widely acclaimed debut, here are three new books you must add to your TBR pile.
Time travel, a mystery and a 19th century English castle—what more could you want?! Kendra is rising the FBI ranks when a raid gone wrong leaves her wounded and half her team dead. Intent on revenge, Kendra goes to England to take down the man responsible. But when she finds herself running for her life through Aldrich Castle, she is beyond shocked to realize that it’s now 1815. Pretending to be a lady’s maid, Kendra is busy trying to figure out how she got here—and how she can get home—when the body of a dead girl is found on the estate. Before she can go back to the 21 century, she’ll need to find a killer that’s on the loose.
As lovers of historical fiction, it’s not often we read books set in 18th century Hungary. Though we thought the plot faltered at times, overall we enjoyed the story of Charlotte von Steinbeck, a young widow, and Carlo Morelli, an opera singer who both end up at the royal palace at the same time. Charlotte, sister of Prince Nikolaus, and Carlo must stop an assassination attempt on the Habsburg Emperor and Empress. As the two work to foil the plot, they’ll be blackmailed, faced with black magic—and maybe fall in love.
This short story collection from a debut author is bitingly funny and also incredibly insightful. Many women will relate and understand the buzz surrounding Schiff. From first love to first sexual encounters to stories dealing with death and dying, Schiff’s bare prose will strike a chord—leaving you nodding, cringing and smiling in recognition.
