New Releases – Week of June 8
The best new books of the week are three titles we have been eagerly anticipating. It’s definitely beach read season!
Dystopian thrillers are all the rage right now, and the advanced reviews for this one have us curious to check it out (not to mention we love The Walking Dead!). There is something special about Melanie and her fellow students. They live on a military base in a post-Breakdown world filled with Hungries (the children) and the wild Junkers. If there is to be a cure, the children are often killed and dissected. But with a little help from her favorite teacher, Melanie manages to avoid dissection and makes an unlikely escape….
We were big fans of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and are excited to see the co-author has a new novel—we’re already thinking book club. It’s 1938 and Layla Beck is not very happy when her father, a US senator, tells her she must make her own money. Forced to leave the life of a socialite behind, Layla is now in West Virginia to write about the history of a small mill town. Expecting to be bored to tears, Layla is actually surprised when she gets know her host family, the Romeyns, and their role in the town. Life will never be the same as Layla reveals long-hidden secretes held by both the town and the eccentric family.
With comparisons to Liane Moriarty and Jojo Moyes, it’s a given that Jewell is on our must-read list. Promising to be a page-turner to the very end, the story centers around Adrian Wolfe, a successful architect left grieving when his third wife is hit by a bus and dies. But was it a horrific accident or a suicide? As Adrian begins to search for answers, he discovers that perhaps his children and previous wives aren’t as stable as he always believed. And how far would they go to take away his happiness?
