Author Joya Fields
Romance author Joya Fields visits Shelf Pleasure to tell us what books are on her nightstand.
“I love getting lost in a world different than the one where I live through fiction, and I also love to read non-fiction to learn about new and different
topics. Right now, my nightstand has two books—one fiction and one non-fiction. The fiction book I’m reading (for the second time) is Carla Buckley’s
The Things that Keep Us Here. It’s a book that is so good you’ll want to read it twice. Carla weaves the struggles of a family, the intricacies of survival,
and the way life can change in a minute into a believable and compelling story.
The non-fiction book is probably not the kind of book you want to read at night if you’re the type who worries about impending doom. David Quamman’s book Spillover: Animal Infections and the Human Pandemic is written in understandable jargon and with a calm yet informative style. His personal
stories of his interactions with animals, and the people who have witnessed animal-to-human diseases are page-turning great. I highly recommend both of these books and I recommend reading them together. You’ll see why once you’ve finished.”
Joya Fields has had over 100 stories and articles published in local and national magazines. Her debut novel, Beneath the Surface, a romantic suspense,
and Love Delivered, a contemporary novella, are now available. Her marriage of convenience story, Forever’s Promise, part of the Simply Wedded anthology, will release early 2013. Visit her here.
