Candice M. Hughes
When it comes to books, I am always greedy. I find myself at my gorgeous town library stuffing as many books into my bag as will fit. Then I get home and reality sets in. There is just not enough time in the day (and night) to read all the exciting books I’ve brought home. Sure they looked great on the shelf- the covers were slick and intriguing. The cover blurbs were titillating, promising heart pounding, twisting plots. But, sadly, I have to keep passing them by day after day as I rush about working, acting as family taxi driver, cooking and other mundane things. I am able to read snatches of them here and there in those lost minutes waiting for pasta to boil or brushing my teeth. However, the pile always remains perilously high, because next weekend at the library, I will again be greedy.
In this photo, you can see the sign of the book delusionist, a towering stack. Here I am attempting to read the second in the Game of Thrones series (good luck on that at about 1,000 pages). Additionally, I have my brand-new Kindle Fire HD on which I hope soon to read a novel, in the rare times I can wrest it from my game-playing off-spring. I have a novel by Tess Gerritsen, whose books I occasionally read. I also have a novel by a writer new to me, Karen Moning, which is my “take a chance book”. Finally, comes the book I am actually reading, Dodger, by one of my favorite authors, Terry Pratchett. It is his latest novel and everyone is precious for me since he has early onset Alzheimer’s disease and I don’t know how many more novels he will write.
