Shelf Pleasure’s Book Picks for Severe Weather
We never mind having to stay inside reading, but there are some days when that’s all you CAN do! Here are our picks for reads to keep you occupied during inclement weather. The only danger is, these books are so good you might not even realize the storm outside your house has taken a turn for the worse.
Starring 29-year old Manhattan attorney Emily who breaks up with her boyfriend right as he’s on the verge of proposing, this is a book we read, loved, and now recommend to all our friends. “You’re your own worst enemy,” her best friend Jess tells her. “It’s like you get pleasure out of breaking your own heart.” We laughed and we cried as we watch Emily try to get out of her own way and figure out what happiness really means for her. This book will also break your heart, but in the absolutely best possible way.
This is the first book in Lutz’s zany series about a family of private detectives in San Francisco. It’s impossible not to fall in love with all of them,
especially 28-year old Izzy and her sugar addict sister Rae. While there are always several delicious mysteries in all of the books, one of the best parts is watching the family investigate each other.
We’re big fans of young adult fiction at Shelf Pleasure, and this is one of our all time favorites. Anna is all set to enjoy her senior year in Atlanta, until she
is shipped off to a boarding school in Paris and meets handsome Parisian Étienne St. Clair. There’s nothing like watching love bloom in Paris, and the characters in this one had us falling completely head over heels with them as well.
This one has so many wonderful elements, including a reluctant witch who is a direct descendant of the first woman executed in the Salem Witch Trials, a 1,500-year-old-vampire, and a mysterious manuscript that is so much more than it seems. We were completely swept up by the magical mystery and highly recommend picking up all three of the books in this trilogy, because once you dive in you won’t want to put them down.
