Snapped: The Best Place to Read & Relax? The Tub!
There is no wrong place to read a book! Dora Levy Mossanen is a woman after our own heart. Find out how the bathtub became her reading spot of choice for her latest novel, Scent of Butterflies.
A bathtub might not be an exotic location to read a book, but when you are dressed up to the nines and on your way to a black tie gala and you walk into the bathtub with makeup on and in your high heels and ball grown, then it can become semi-exotic.
The story behind this photograph is that I was about to attend this formal event, when I had a last look at my iPhone and was alerted by as-it-happens that Scent of Butterflies was reviewed somewhere. I had to read the review, of course, and was quite pleased to find it favorable. And here was my granddaughter, who had to know why I was suddenly so giddy. So, I told her. She is an aspiring photographer and an avid reader, who can’t wait to grow up so she’d be allowed to read grandma’s books. Well, there she was in front of the door, refusing to let me leave, before she took a picture of me.
“Go ahead,” I said, posing for her, “I’m ready.”
“No way. This is way too boring,” she replied, “I don’t like it a bit.”
“Ok, what’s not boring?”
She took me by the hand and walked me to the bathroom, bunched up the train of my skirt and all the fabric as I wobbled perilously, high heels and all, into the bathtub. Thank heavens she didn’t ask me to fill it with warm water and add bath oils.
“Pretend you’re reading your book,” she ordered, “Or it won’t look natural.”
What we won’t do for our grandkids.
