Judy Blume’s Tiger Eyes by Karen A. Chase
I’m not much into teen movies since I’m now in my 40s. All those tears and all that drama. However, I’ll likely be going to see Tiger Eyes based on the book by Judy Blume.
Blume was an integral part of my growing up years, beginning when I was just a fourth-grade nothing. At the point when my own teen angst and little boobs were just blossoming, in the early 1980s, I purchased a book out of a discount bin at my neighborhood library. Tiger Eyes. Blume’s character, Davie, had more pain in her life than I did, but she was suffering with the same teen issues. Acceptance. New love. Fitting in. Aching for just a few minutes of quiet time away from everyone to ease into being herself.
That Judy Blume book is one of the few that made it from my teen bookshelves to my adult shelves. I kept it all these years, and knowing it will be the first film made from her books, makes me glad I did. For Blume, I hope it’s just the beginning of making her books into films. For me, I’m sure seeing the film will help me realize how far I’ve come.
Will you be seeing Tiger Eyes this weekend?
