I have an 81.6% accuracy rate when it comes to predicting a story’s plot (if you don’t think I have it calculated, you don’t know me!).
Well, congratulations to Carolyn T. Dingman because she lowered my average, not once, but three times. Her novel Cancel the Wedding threw me for a loop all while telling a touching story of discovering an unknown family history.
This book is for anyone who has ever investigated, or thought about investigating, their family’s genealogy. The book’s main character, Olivia, is taken on an emotional road trip to put her mother’s ashes to rest in a hometown Olivia has never heard about. The kicker is that she had no idea how prominent her mother was in the town when she arrives, and decides to uncover her family’s past with the help of her teenage niece, Logan. This family-friendly novel has unexpected twists, four intertwined love stories, and an outcome that even I couldn’t accurately predict. Cancel the Wedding sounds self-explanatory, but it’s not. This novel is a great weekend read with surprises all around.
