Whole Latte Life
The trailer for Joanne DeMaio’s Whole Latte Life is our pick for this week. This fast paced and intriguing trailer had us at first viewing, and we especially love the music! We also love that the making of the trailer was a mother / daughter collaboration, and mothers and daughters is a theme that runs throughout Joanne’s lyrical novel. Watch the trailer, and then read on for a peek into the making of it from the author herself.
Author Joanne DeMaio:
“Creating the Whole Latte Life book trailer was a collaboration between my daughter Mary and myself. First came the brainstorming. How long to make it? What should the video include? Music? Text? Voice-over or not? We ended up deciding that a series of three brief videos would best capture the story.
This video is actually the first in a series of what I like to call Book Webisodes for Whole Latte Life. It showcases the book’s opening of two friends celebrating their 40th birthdays in Manhattan, when one of those friends makes a sudden decision. This pivotal moment affects the rest of the story as well as their friendship. I felt that Whole Latte Life‘s hook needed to be captured in the trailer, so that the reader would be left wondering what comes next.
After developing the initial ideas, my daughter Mary took over the production aspect, seeking out music, stock photos and video clips to incorporate. All of the text in the video comes directly from the book, keeping the trailer closely tied to Whole Latte Life. At this point, Mary was involved in a fine-meshing of elements that needed to come together to capture the book’s hook. She did this for each one of the Webisodes, giving a visual to various elements of the novel.
At its heart, Whole Latte Life is also a mother-daughter story. And creating the trailer was very much a mother-daughter project, so this really came full circle. I hope you enjoy our trailer.”
